How to Prepare for Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is more than just “Zapping” unwanted hair. It is a medical procedure that requires training to perform and carries potential risks. Our Staff are Certified Laser Technicians trained at the National Laser Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona. If you planning on undergoing laser hair removal, avoid plucking, waxing and electrolysis for six weeks before treatment. Laser targets the hair’s roots, which are temporarily removed by waxing, plucking or using creams to remove hair. Avoid sun 3 to 4 weeks before and after treatment. Sun exposure makes laser hair removal less effective and complications more likely.
What to Expect During Laser Hair Removal
The night before the procedure, you may shave the area that will be undergoing treatment, that way the hair will be just a few millimeters above the skin surface. The laser equipment is adjusted according to the individual “Fitzpatrick” skin type, hair thickness, and location. You and the technician will wear appropriate eye protection. We will protect the outer layers of your skin with a cold gel, this will help the laser light penetrate the skin. In addition our laser the “Luminus One 1064 laser” features a special built in cooling devise for added comfort. The technician will give a laser pulse to the treatment area as a “test spot” and watch it for several minutes to make sure the best settings were used and to check for unwanted reactions. After the procedure you may have a cold gel pack applied, creams or cold water to ease any discomfort. Treatments are every 4 to 8 weeks.
Recovery
For a day or two afterward, the treated skin may look and feel like a slight sunburned. Cool compresses will help. If your face was treated makeup can be worn the next day. Starting in a few days and over the next month, your treated hair will fall out. Wear sunscreen to help prevent temporary changes in skin color.
